Budget Guidelines

An applicant may request up to $8,000 to support the summer research effort and travel to the joint meetings of Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience and the Society for Neuroscience.

The applicant is encouraged to use the following line items up to the recommended amounts, as long as the maximum request of $8,000 is not exceeded. The applicant is required to write a justification for each line item.

Although not required for grant submission, an institutional match of $1000 for student and faculty travel support to the FUN/SfN Meeting will be favorably reviewed.  Such an institutional match will bring the total funding level to $9,000 for the SOMAS Awardee.

Student-related Expenses

  • Stipend -- $4,000 for ten weeks including FICA

  • Food and Lodging Allowance -- $1,000 including FICA

  • Travel/lodging/registration/etc. to FUN/SFN Meetings -- $500

Faculty Awardee Expenses

  • Stipend -- $500 including FICA

  • Supply Budget -- $1,500

  • Travel to FUN/SFN Meetings -- $500
